Exhibition: SAFAR – a creative journey of colours

Exhibition: SAFAR – a creative journey of coloursShe forayed into the world of art after having worked in the United Arab Emirates and the United States, before finally settling in Pakistan.

SAFAR, or journey, being exhibited at Comsats, is a montage of Nargis Khalid’s work through the ages.

The water colors, like the sensibility of Khalid’s oil paintings, are vibrant. She presents a fresh outlook on still life. The colors bleed at the right places, giving the simple still life some character.

“The times maybe troubling and harsh, but color is always soothing and hopeful, and that’s the reason I use as much color in my work as I can,” Khalid said, adding, “it makes me very happy to teach and show people what I have learnt and achieved in these past years.”

During her time at Rhode Island School of Design, Khalid discovered the joy of using mixed media. “Every day has been a journey for me, and I have had a battling love affair with oil and water paints.”

She concluded, “This is an account of my chromatic encounters, as I traveled from an earlier style of using textures with palette knife to pouring, splashing and stamping thinned oil paints on canvas.”
