Though the beauty market is changing, it is still seen as slightly effeminate if a man uses beauty products, unless he’s George Clooney, in which case all that mascara is fine. (George Clooney is so wearing mascara in many of his pictures, he has lashes that supermodels would cave his face up for.) Here are five beauty maintenance products men can, and should use if they are interested in looking their best. (Whatever that means. Rolling around in the dirt and then scrubbing one’s face down with soap and hot ashes is also okay if you can’t be bothered with any of the products below.)
Lip Balm
Lip balm is supposed to stop chapped lips, but it is effectively useless unless you actually have chapped lips, in which case, it’s quite good. Lip balm tends to become addictive however, so beware. Once you pop the lid of a tube or tub of lip balm, you may be unable to stop. It’s also not an awful way to dip your toe into the world of lip gloss and lip sticks without people screaming in retarded capitalized sentences.
Moisturizer
Moisturizing, especially with a product that includes SPF sunscreen is a very good idea for men. Men’s skins are no less sensitive to sun damage than woman’s skins, and preventing your skin from drying out reduces the signs of aging. Allegedly. You’re still going to age, but you’ll be more liquidy about it, I suppose. It’s a good idea to moisturize your face (with a facial moisturizer, using a body moisturizer on your face will condemn you to beauty hell, or so they would have us believe,) and to also moisturize your hands, which bear the brunt of your day’s work, and if you happen to be a man who likes hosiery and whatnot, its not a bad idea to moisturize your legs too. If nothing else, it will make them feel divine, especially if you have shaved them already.
Cleanser and Toner
This may be going too far for some men, but if you’re a skin proud kind of guy, then cleansing, toning and moisturizing before bed is a great way to keep your skin clean, clear of acne and generally glowing in the sort of fashion that only women and male stars are allowed to glow.
