How to get bright, wide-awake eyes in 9 steps

Use some or all of these nine steps to help your eyes look their best. Learn how to get bright, beautiful eyes now!

You can get bright, beautiful eyes in nine steps or fewer. Here’s how:

1) Moisturize the skin around your eyes every day with a product specifically formulated to be applied around the eyes, preferably one that contains vitamin E, a powerful and effective moisturizer. If you have sagging tissue under your eyes, try using a product that contains an anti-aging or skin firming ingredient such as copper.

2) For wrinkles around the eyes, try using a product containing Retinol, an ingredient that boosts collagen which plumps up the skin and smoothes away wrinkles. Applying Retinol topically around the eyes takes several weeks to work so don’t expect overnight success.

3) Using a product specifically designed for use near the eyes that contains alpha-hydroxy acid will exfoliate the dead skin around the eyes and reveal the fresh radiant skin underneath.

4) Dark circles get in the way of that bright-eyed look. Most people believe that dark circles are a symptom of sleep deprivation, but this is actually a myth. Dark circles are not caused by a lack of sleep. This doesn’t mean that sleep deprivation and dark circles are completely unrelated, however. When you don’t get enough sleep you skin usually becomes paler and therefore makes dark circles look darker, even though they are really the same color. So do get a good night’s sleep but don’t expect that to solve the dark circles problem. For temporary relief from dark circles, apply a cold compress which will restrict blood vessels in the area and reduce the appearance of dark circles. For a permanent fix, regularly apply an eye cream formulated to reduce the appearance of dark circles. Under eye cream made to fix dark circles often contain the ingredients licorice extract and vitamin K.

5) Concealer is a powerful tool when it comes to fighting the battle against dark circles. But instead of using a matte concealer, try using a product that contains light-reflecting pigments. Apply the light-reflecting concealer to the darkest areas underneath your eyes. Don’t paint the product all the way around your eyes it will cause an unattractive, raccoon-like ring.

6) If you insist on using a matte finish concealer, use one that is at least one shade (or a maximum of two shades) lighter than the color of your foundation. Believe it or not, the lighter shade of concealer will blend better than one that is the same color as your foundation.

7) Curl your eyelashes the right way. Heat your eyelash curler under a blow-dryer for a few seconds. While the curler is still warm, use it to curl your eyelashes on one eye, then stick it back under the blow dryer for a few more seconds before curling the lashes on the other eye. Apply mascara after your eyelashes are curled.

8) Use an eyeliner. Use a darker color of eyeliner or a thin line of dark eye shadow to completely line your upper eyelid. For the bottom lid, choose a light shade and draw a line only about halfway across the lid. If you line the bottom eyelid completely your eyes will look smaller. For the bottom lashes, you can use a light gray, blue or green, soft brown or pink, or even a shimmery gold, but do not use black.

9) You don’t need glitter to get radiant eyes. Apply a shimmery shadow along the lower lid and a use a highlighting cream or shadow on the brow bone to get that fresh yet subtle glow that really opens up the eyes and makes you look wide awake. Use a dark shadow in the crease for contrast only.
