A music and dance evening titled ‘Sur Taal’ organised by the Society of Classical Arts (SCA) was held at Alhamra Cultural Complex on Monday.
Before the programme, Bina Jawwad, an SCA member, said that SCA had been founded to promote Pakistani music and dance heritage amongst the young generation. Ms Jawad lamented that artists were not being valued and were underselling themselves. She stressed the need to revive classical music and dance –the legacy of spirituals and Sufi saints.
A number of classical dance and music performances were held on the occasion. Adnan Jahangir, a student of Ms Jawwad and Asmat Jawad, performed the first classical dance titled ‘Vibrations’. Khalid Hussian Qadri enthralled the audience with his flute skills and Shehzad Khalil enchanted them by playing the sitar. Nasirud Din Sami, a Karachi-based classical singer, mesmerized music lovers with his classical songs. Adnan Jahangir, a classical dancer, performed a number of dazzling classical dances. A large number of music lovers, young people and city elite including former Pakistani ambassador Khalid Amir Khan were present.
