Music album launched to promote child rights

ISLAMABAD: Audio-visual aids, especially music are effective tools to create awareness among people on the child rights, said Society for the Protection of the Rights of the Child (SPARC) Executive Director Qindeel Shujaat.

Shujaat was speaking at the launching of a musical album here on Wednesday. Renowned poet Iftikhar Arif was chief guest on this occasion.

Shujaat said SPARC was using audio-visual aids to draw attention of people towards rights of children.

He said music was one the most important and effective tools to change mindset of the civil society and the government to provide children an improved and friendly environment.

“Children have unique needs and they need special attention, strategies and mechanisms. Their issues of love and care, protection and schooling should be taken up both by the public and the government,” he said.

He said music had been termed as an effective medium to help relive pain and sorrow.

“Music today is used worldwide as a therapy to ease stress of life and illnesses. SPARC is using music to promote, protect and propagate children’s rights to education, health, safety and security, recreation, love and care and most of all to a healthy and fulfilled childhood,” he added.

Shujaat said he had conceived and executed the musical album to bring together voices both from Pakistan and India.

“We have the veteran and sweet voiced Mehnaz from Pakistan and Kumar Sano from India who have lent their voices in support of child rights and that too pro bono along with many more both experienced and amateur singers from Pakistan,” he said.

He pointed out that the videos revolve around juvenile justice, street children and bonded labour and talked about the vulnerability of children when exposed to the hazards of child labour, living on the streets, abuse and exploitation at the workplaces, physical or mental abuse at educational institutions and homes, the scars that mar their childhood and later adulthood, at times forever.

Arif speaking on this occasion asked parents to fulfil their responsibilities towards children. He shared with the audience his own childhood experiences and the efforts he made to make child friendly environment for his kids in light of his learning.
