What Makes Healthy Skin, Nails and Hair?

Everybody desires to have healthy hair, skin and nails as they can reflect their inner health. But what we see today is most of the people don’t have healthy ones. Increasing global stress, environmental pollution, genetic deficiency and lack of nutrients are the major factors contributing for this trouble. You must know that there are relationships between healthy hair, skin and nails and your general health. All of them need same nutrients and behave in similar way during nutrient deficiency. So to keep a healthy hair, skin and nails you should have a better knowledge about each of them.

Hair:

Healthy looking hair can not only enhance your beauty, but also is highly essential for keeping yourself warm. A hair strand is made up of three layers namely outer cuticle, middle cortex and central medulla. Each of the hair strands is having protein keratin in it, which can keep the follicle strong. The growth of the hair begins at the root of the hair by forming new cells. As the cells form at the bottom, the cells which are already present move up forming a rod of tissues. They become dead cells and combine with the keratin to form the shaft of the hair.
Some of the most common hair problems include dandruff, baldness, hair loss, hair graying, finding small patches of hair, thinning of hair, dry hair, flaking scalp, red, itchy or oily scalp etc. some may also have problems like inflammation of hair follicles due to infection and excessive body and facial hair. All these problems are contributed by chemical or hormonal imbalances resulting from aging, nutritional deficiency, illness and due to usage of certain medications. You should always concentrate on having healthy balanced foods like dark green leafy vegetables, salmon, beans, nuts, poultry, eggs etc included in your food. Some medications like minoxidil, finasteride, dutasteride and retin can help you from these problems, but they have plenty of side effects.

Skin:

Skin is the organ which is the covering for our body. It protects us from injury, infections, heat and environmental damage. Skin is made up of three layers namely epidermis, dermis and hyper dermis. Epidermis contains keratin, skin pigments and langerhans cells which protect from infections. Dermis is the middle layer containing collagen, elastin, blood vessels, hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Hyper dermis is the inner layer having sweat glands and fat.

Most of the skin problems arise with lack of nutrients in your diet. Some of the commonly known skin diseases are acne, eczema, boils, bruises, cellulites, psoriasis, skin cancer, skin tagging, stretch marks, warts and wrinkles. Some of the symptoms associated with skin diseases are itching, lesions, moles, rashes, skin color changes, tenderness, swelling, leathery skin, hyper sensitivity, peeling and bleeding. There are many medications available in the market, but most of them have serious side effects. Treatment of skin diseases require treating from both inside and outside.

Nails:

Nail is an important part which provides protection to the finger tips and toes and improves sensation. It is comprised of nail plate, nail bed and matrix. Just like hair, nail is also formed by keratinization. Nail is also vulnerable to diseases due to hormonal imbalances, nutrient deficiency, medications, illness and aging. Some of the commonly seen nail problems include viral, bacterial and fungal infections, tumours and warts, ingrown nails and splinter hemorrhages. Some of the symptoms associated with the above problems are hardening of nails, splitting of the fingertip, appearance of ridges, itching, redness and pain. Some medication can obviously help you from these problems, but they do have many side effects. But natural treatments can help you in a better way without any side effects.
