Tall, dark handsome and admirably articulate, he is a cameraman’s delight in a body-hugging T-shirt, cigarette gingerly clutched, the one and only Pakistani super star Shaan.
Pakistani filmmakers are gearing up to co-produce films with their Indian counterparts and rope in Indian actors.
A 25-member official Pakistani film delegation, in Mumbai to take part in ‘FRAMES’, the biggest convention in Asia covering the entire gamut of entertainment, is already negotiating with Indian bigwigs like producer-cum-director Yash Chopra.
The team, which has signed memoranda of understanding with Indian producers like Shyam Shroff and Chopra, is also hoping to rope in Indian stars after receiving a green signal from Pakistani officials.
Jamshed Zaffar, a Pakistani film producer, is marking out plans to co-produce a film with Shyam Shroff, entitled Ehsan.
“We have not yet finalised the Indian actress, but we are looking at names like Sonali Bendre, and Shaan from Pakistan will be the lead actor in the film. We hope to shoot the film in London” Zaffar said.
Shaan has taken up direction too. Cutting his teeth on Urdu fiction writers like Sadat Hassan Manto and Rajinder Singh Bedi, he is directing Do Aankhein Barah Haath, based on Bedi’s story Garam Coat.
“There’s so much in our common literary heritage. Adaptation is not bad, copying frame to frame is,” he comments.
