As summer approaches I see colourful billboards everywhere! Skinny models in glam make-up are wrapped in designer fabric – all to impress female consumers. The models wear long qameezes and short ones, baggy shirts and tight ones – what they do not wear are shalwars.

The Extravagant lawn Exhibitions 2011
Summer season is heading now and it is the season of lawn, the new prêt. To provide the comfort of bright and smooth colors with lavishing designs, many designers and celebrities are bringing up their Lawn collections in the market in lavishing exhibitions and carnivals.
With high end courtiers like Umar Sayeed, Hasan Sheheryar Yasin (HSY) and Nomi Ansari and celebrities like Nadia Hussain joining the lawn bandwagon, the summer of 2011 promises exclusive collections. While retail stores like Bonanza just entered the lawn market, Sitara Premium Lawn collaborated with designer Shamaeel, bringing Shamaeel’s Luxury Lawn Collection 2011. Firdous Cloth mills have once again captured audience by roping in Deepika Padukone as Brand Ambassador.
Additionally, rumor has it that Khaadi, Faiza Samee, Shamaeel and Deepak Perwani will also be launching their lawn collections so it’s safe to say that the summer of 2011 will be a battle of epic proportions.
Brand Ambassadors for lawn this year are from TV to Bollywood celebrities like Sahista wahidi and Deepika padukone models for Firdous lawn, Sushmita Sen for Crescent lawn and Iman Ali for Asim Jofa lawn.
Maria B launches Pakistan’s First Ready to Wear designer Lawn 2011
Maria Butt, aka Maria B, launched her lawn collection in Karachi on March 2. What makes the designer’s collection different is her experimentation with stitched lawn with prices ranging from Rs3,900 and Rs4,300, alongside regular unstitched items ranging from Rs2,700 to Rs3,250.
Sharing details of her collection, Butt said: “It’s ready-to-go lawn, which offers 10 designs with three colour variations. Hence, 30 new prints in a stitched and unstitched lawn collection.”
