The first Bollywood concert to be held in Lahore, earlier scheduled for mid-February has been rescheduled to March 25.
When Concord 2004 was suddenly postponed last month, Bunty Walia, Managing Director of GS Entertainment had cited “technical reasons” for the deferment.
But the new date means that the first show of Bollywood stars in Lahore will take place the day after the one-day cricket match between India and Pakistan in Lahore (March 24).
Organised by Delhi-based Entertainment Works, Walia’s GS Entertainment is managing the stars, their stage acts and the script of the show.
So Concord 2004 will feature Akshay Kumar, Shilpa Shetty, Mahek (item number girl from Munnabhai MBBS), Jatin-Lalit, Sajid Khan, Shaan, Sunidhi and a 10-member orchestra. “The show will be for 2000 invitees at the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club in Lahore,” said Walia who is going on a trip next week to check on security arrangements.
Music director Lalit said that he and Jatin are “really looking forward to the concert”. He said, “We will play all our hits. The songs from Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge are very popular in Pakistan and we’re sure the response to them will be wonderful. Also, since Akshay Kumar is part of the show we will play songs from Khiladi.
We may not be allowed to go outside Lahore, but I’m looking forward to the tour.”Both Shaan and Sunidhi are excited too. “Though I haven’t specifically thought of visiting Pakistan before, I’ve always felt that Indian musicians should get an opportunity to perform there,” said Shaan. Akshay Kumar also said that he was “looking forward to the show”.
The proceeds from Concord 2004 will go to PISA — Palmers International Sports Academy which provides training and awards scholarships to talented youngsters in a variety of sports.
