Joining forces with the sixth Expo Pakistan being held in collaboration with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan at the Expo Centre, the fourth Pakistan Fashion Design Council-Sunsilk Fashion Week commenced on Thursday and will span four days covering designers from the fashion pool of the country.
The Spring/Summer 2012 pret-a-porter collections have 23 designers and leading industry labels and a sum total of 24 shows from Adnan Pardesy, Akif Mahmood, Ammar Belal, Ayesha F. Hashwani, FNK Asia, HSY, Khaadi Khaas, Mohsin Ali, Muse,
Nickie Nina, Nida Azwer, Republic, Saniya Maskatiya, Yahsir Waheed and Zaheer Abbas. Also showing are four new designers Batur, Hammad-ur-Rehman, M. Irfan and Zonia who are supported by the PFDC.
Foreign buyers were in large attendance on the first day of the fashion week and were seen checking out collections at the
exhibition hall.
On the first day, Maria B showed a collection titled ‘Neo Natives’ with shoes and bags by Farhat Ahmed. The outfits put on the ramp were fusionwear and had free-flowing pants with geometric Aztec screen prints in shades of basic crème, black and a few shots of colour. Rizwanullah, Yousuf Bashir Qureshi and Shaista Wahidy were the showstoppers in her segment.
Zonia Anwaar’s Aurora Luminescence had an aubergine colour base with some experimental wear and was essentially women’s wear.
Zaheer Abbas’s line was based on wet drapery and showed pleated dresses in earthen tones with short in the front and trailing at the back with Greek pottery-inspired motifs in matte gold.
Nida Azwer showed a green palette with gold leaf screen prints and included a blue number with an illusion neckline and décolleté.
With 15 years of nurturing Pakistani design talent, the eight Pakistan Institute of Fashion and Design students showed highly experimental and edgy wear that included diversity in cuts, colour and fabric as well as strong inspirations of Kailash culture and Swati coats. The headgear deserves special mention here with reverse masks lending oomph to one particular colourful collection.
Akif Mahmood’s Mast Patang collection was inspired by the kite flying festival of Lahore and included a vibrant colour palette and motifs of havelis and kites on the outfits.
The second day of the fashion week will showcase the designs of Nickie Nina, Zainab Sajid, Mohsin Ali, Sania Maskatiya, M. Irfan Ali and FNK Asia.
The shows are produced by Frieha Altaf, styled by Saba Ansari of Sabs and Khawar Riaz, and PR by Selina Rashid of Lotus.
